26′ Aluminum Runabout

Design Brief

Resembling the famous American runabouts that popularized family boating throughout the world, the 26 ft. Runabout is designed to fill a niche for a semi-custom but yet affordable family boat. All hull and structure will be CNC cut to facilitate an efficient build.

The standard hull can then be used to offer up to 4 different models. The classic runabout will have weekender accommodations, the dayboat will have an open layout with plenty of seating, the fisherman will have the helm station located for better viewing while the stern is clean of obstructions, and the fisherman hardtop will provide shelter for all weather use.

The unique feature of the hull is the lapstrake look in the forward sections of the topsides. The lapstrake serves multiple functions. Most importantly it is to break up the slab-sided look of many aluminum powerboats in this size range. The laps also increase the flare of the topsides while keeping the plating perfectly developable.

The standard version of the runabout will use a 200 hp Volvo Engine connected to the sterndrive via a jackshaft for top speeds in the low 30 knot range while cruising at 24-26 knots. Keeping the LCG forward, the runabout will get on plane quickly, enabling her to reduce speed to battle through choppy seas by keeping the high deadrise forefoot where it does the most good, close to the water level.
